10 Ways To Drive Targeted Traffic To Your Website

Okay ... so you've built your website, now what?

There are several ways to drive high-quality traffic to your website without you having to spend anything. Here are 10 strategies you can use:

1. Optimize your site for the search engines.

You'd have to be a fulltime search engine optimization expert to keep up with all the changes the major search engines make, but there are a few basic things you can do to help your site come up for relevant searches. Here are some to get you started:

a) Define your keywords - this is how people will find your business online. The trick is to find keywords that are highly relevant to what you offer and popular enough that they will attract decent traffic to your site, but not so competitive that you can't rank well using them. Use your keywords in your web page copy. To get started with keywords I recommend goodkeywords.com. They have an excellent tool which is free.

b) Create your Meta tags - this is how the search engines "read" your site. Put your keywords in your Meta tags in the source code of each page of your website.

c) Don't use lots of graphics or Flash, frames, or "alt" tags in HTML for pictures - search engines don't like them because it makes it hard for them to "read" your site.

d) Get links to your site - create a page in your website and call it either resources or links and add good, relevant links. Or you can sign up with links-exchange.net and have them create a links page for you with one link from your site. Linking is the second biggest indicator of how your site is ranked.

2. Submit your site to the search engines.

Why wait for the search engines' robots or spiders to find you? Submit your website at addme.com, dmoz.org/add.html, submitexpress.com or ineedhits.com

3. Use pay-per-click advertising or PPC

Google Adwords or Yahoo Overture both offer pay-per-click advertising options. You can create a PPC campaign for a very small investment, and because you have complete control over your budget, you can set it for whatever amount you feel comfortable with. It's very difficult to get to the top rank in the search engine, but it can be very easy to get on the first page of results with a PPC, bringing targeted traffic to you. The best part is you only pay when someone clicks your ad that takes them to your website. Adwords and Overture are both easy to learn.

4. Place or swap ads with other ezines in your niche.

Seek out other ezines in your niche whose publishers might be interested in swapping ads. They can either be normal ads, or just a recommendation within the content of the ezine itself.
In addition to or instead of swapping ads, you could also purchase ad space in an ezine in your niche that has a large circulation. If you pay to place an ad, I usually suggest running it for a minimum of three consecutive issues for the best results.

5. Find a Joint Venture or be a Bonus Participant.

You're probably aware of the tactic of adding valuable bonuses to your offerings to encourage people to buy. As a traffic-building technique, you could do the same for someone else's product offering. This will bring people to your site to see what you have to offer. You can join with someone in advertising to bring results for both of you. There are also JV sites online where you can offer free products that will get people to your site. Don't forget to capture the visitor's name and email address so that you can follow up with him/her later. The money is in the size of your list.

6. Become an "ask the expert" on a high-traffic website in your niche.

Seek out websites that are information portals for your niche, and see if they offer an "ask the expert" section. Offer your services as an expert, to answer questions from their visitors about the challenges they face.

7. Be an active participant on a large discussion list or Forum in your niche.

Research and join a handful of discussion lists in your niche, and schedule time every week to check in and see if you can offer any valuable advice to the conversation. Be careful to follow the list rules about promoting your website, though. Most lists are intended to be a place where people can ask for help without worrying about being sold to. However, most lists also allow you a couple of lines in your email signature where you can promote your business. Use this space to point people in the direction of your website.

8. Write articles and post them online

This is one of the best ways in driving traffic to your site. If you write articles, other people read them or use them as content for their websites. You come across as an expert in your niche. People read them and click on your link.

9. Write a Press Release

I am about to go on vacation for awhile

Woot has been doing a Woot-off for several days now. Basically Woot is a web site that will sell one product a day with the sale starting at midnight CST. The sale is typically a highly discounted item making it a really good deal. On some of the more popular products they will sell through them with in 10-30 minutes of them going on display. They also do what they call a Woot-Off where they sell a lot of products consecutively and they are all really good deals. They will sell the product until they run out of them.

They have been doing this most recent woot off for at least 2 days so far and there have been a lot of good products available from it for very very cheap. If you haven't got all of your holiday shopping done yet this is a good place to start. You could probably save a ton of money buy just watching it. But you had better be quick about it, the good items sell off really quick. For example they had a blue tooth headset on it for sale earlier for $10. It sold pretty quickly.

It looks like the PS2 is on the market

The PS3 has finally hit the market and I don't know about everyone else but I am waiting for a good solid review of this new gaming console. For the $600 it is selling for I would hope that it would allow you to enter the matrix or something when you are playing it. So far though I have yet to find a decent review of the actual console from anywhere online.

It would be damned nice to be able to get one but I doubt that I will be able to afford one until the price drops way down. It seems like I could buy a pretty nice computer for that same price and I could do a lot more with a computer then I could with the PS3.

AMD's quad core processors are on their way

Reports have AMD's new processor out in a week or two. This means that they will beat Intel to the market with a quad core processor. The only down fall that we are getting is that the processors will cost over $1000 a piece for the lower end versions. Making them completely uneconomical to buy at this time.

At any rate, each core on the new processor is supposed to have 2MB of L2 cache each, making the quad core an astounding 8MB of L2 cache. Whether it ends up being worth it for that is a different story, the software industry has yet to catch up with dual core in any way. Most, when I say most I mean 98%, of the software that is on the market today does not benefit from dual core architecture at all.

So we will see soon on what will come out of the AMD quad core movement.

Universal Music Group gets $1 for every Zune sold

It looks like Microsoft has already signed a deal with Universal Music Group to pay them one easy dollar for every Zune that is sold. This is supposed to help them for all of the illegal music that will get put on the Zune. It also helps Microsoft prevent them from getting sued to death by Universal for their music sharing service that will allow Zune's to transfer music across wireless networks.

Despite the ability to transfer music the music will only have a 3 day period that it will be able to remain on the Zune until it gets delted. This is part of Microsoft's new sharing system that is supposed to help generate more revenue through people sharing music without pissing off the music industry any more then they need to. The only problem with that system is of course the fact that not all music is licensed through the recording industry. So independent artists would seem to also have to go through that same ordeal of only being on someone's Zune for 3 days until they get deleted and the user has to go and download the song for free anyway.

It will probably be extremely confusing at first but i'm sure that once it gets rolling the Microsoft machine will spin it in to good news rather then complicated horse crap.

PayPerPost has been a pretty good resource for me to get a little extra cash here in there, I like to post a lot of articles and then let the money sit there so I can forget about it. This helps me to save up money to buy things that I would normally avoid buying because AI have to pay bills or save up for something even bigger. It is nice money that I leave on the side for anything that might come up or things that I want to save up for.

Like right now I am trying to do a posting spree that will help me save up spending money for a cruise that I am going on in a month. This money would be quick and easy for me to leave alone and ensure I have a little extra cash in case I decide that I want to buy a case of authentic mexican tequila while i'm there.

So far I have only got paid about $500 from them but I don't post anywhere near as often as I would like and I select only certain posts that are relevant to what I am about and what the web site is about. Rather then just posting anything that I can find with a high dollar pay out figure. At any rate, everyone should expect to hear a lot more about PayPerPost in the coming weeks as I start to accumulate some nice money to help me pay for that Tequila.

It looks like Vista has been shipped to manufacturers for them to work out the drivers that will be needed for their computers. This new step is the first in the beginning of the final Vista roll out. The final dates are that corporate customers with volume liscences will be gettting the software on November 30th and the general public will get their copies on January 30th.

Hopefully I will get mine before January 30th, I am running the beta version that is supposed to expire in may so it is not that big of a deal but it would be benefitial for me to ensure that I have the latest version that all of the corporations are running to ensure that I can help them fix any problems that they may have with the new version of Windows.

It looks like PayPerPost is a hot topic on TechCrunch, this time Mike Arrigington is talking about PPP raising 3 million in venture capital. This move should help PayPerPost dramatically with their move into paid content for bloggers in any way possible. The articles details how some are very against the idea of PPP and some are very for PPP, and that no one is really just in the middle of the field.

The reasons for this is that PPP doesn't always require a writer to say whether their post is sponsored or if it is something that they are writing about because they genuinely like the product. It looks like Firefox is opening up for ideas on what to implement in to version 3. This move could help them to ensure that the most popular ideas will go in to th new version and get them the most amount of new users to overcome IE as the browser leader in the industry. Firefox keeps improving every time a new version comes out, with their latest version you can have spell check within any text box which helps for users like myself who write in text boxes a lot and what to be sure that their typos and grammatical errors are down to a minimum.

It looks like an Iranian game maker has released a game called "Counter Strike" for those of you familiar with the popular US game called Counter Strike that is a MMORPG. This isn't that game, this game allows Iranians to attack the United States. One of the strategies in the game is actually where you plant bombs onto a tanker and blow it up in one of the largest oil trading channels in the gulf.

This isn't the first time anyone has seen a game similar to this, the United States has been doing it for years of course. One of the largest of it's kind was Wolfenstein i'm sure. Since the announcement of all of the Dell batteries being recalled to the new announcement of the Lenovo and Toshiba battery recall, Sony has now reached a full 4.2 million dollars worth of batteries being recalled. All of the batteries that got recalled were made by Sony if you didn't know this. The amount of money that this recall would cost Sony is worth a 1/3 of their total years fiscal profit.

This could truly hurt Sony in a very bad way because they just came out of chapter 11 due to the ps3's failure to launch and overpricing. It looks like if the PS3 doesn't do overwhelmingly good that Sony could fall well below the red line into the deep dark black.

Only time will telll how this all turns out for Sony, hopefully they will just come out with the PS3 and offer it at a reasonable price. This would be their only savior it seems.

The PayPerPost blog is an awesome community of posters that share in the common goal of blogging for money, this awesome little bunch of people that comment on the posts that PayPerPost releases about their company and about the different things that are coming up are handy to have and a great resource for us posters.

Rumor has it that there is something new and big coming out from PayPerPost, not really sure what that will be but I'm thinking it is podcasting or video blogging as a separate means of revenue. I know that the video posts pay a lot more then the regular text posts that have made PayPerPost so popular.

On the flip side maybe they will develop a subscription model that will allow us to make recurring revenue from the advertisers for talking about their products. Debian and Mozilla are having copyright conflicts?

It looks like Mozilla and Debian are having issues with copyrights, which is odd because last time I checked they are both open software companies, meaning that their software and source if offered for free everywhere on the Internet. It seems that since Debian (and Ubuntu) are distributing their operating systems with Firefox named Firefox but not with the Firefox logo that Mozilla (the parent company) wants them to either put Firefox in the operating system with the Firefox logo or to change the name for Debian releases.

On the other side of the tracks Debian doesn't believe that Firefox is truly free because the logo (think icon) is trademarked by Mozilla so it isn't completely free to use. The conflict looks heating and the emails are getting nasty, who knows what exactly will come out of this recent news. Hopefully they will call a truce and just use the Firefox logo in Ubuntu. I know the blue logo they use now is much less sexy then the regular Firefox logo.

There seems to be a lot of speculation going around about whether ad sense is dead or dying as an advertising platform. There seems to be a lot of different types of advertising slowly starting to take its place.

One of the more popular advertising methods that I use is PayPerPost which actually straight up just pays you per a post that you make in relation to the product or service that is paying you to make that post. As opposed to the way that adsense worked with only allowing you to make money based on who clicked your advertisements. PayPerPost allows you to make so much money based on what you post about. This makes it so that you know exactly what you are advertising and you can pick and choose what you want to advertise about.

A lot of the articles are just looking for buzz, not necessarily positive buzz but buzz about a product. Of course they don't want negative stuff but a lot of the articles are marked neutral letting the poster just post on how they feel about the product or service. So, in my opinion.. Seagate coming out with terabyte hard drives

Seagate has apparently developed a new way to optimize their perpendicular storage to allow for 421GB per a square inch. This means that you would be able to have a desktop hard drive (3.5 inch) with 2.5 terabytes of data. You could also equally have a laptop hard drive (2.5 inch) with 500GB of data. Although they have yet to announce when this will be available for purchase, this is just upping the amount of data by a lot. Currently the maximum is at 750GB for a 3.5 inch desktop hard drive.

The real questions start coming up when you ask if by the time Seagate does release this new technology to the public is if we will have flash memory or something better that can read and write at faster speeds then the outdated technology that we are using today.

Tom's Hardware to release review of Core Quadro on Monday

Tom's Hardware is set to release their review of Intel's quad-core architecture Kentsfield tomorrow on their popular hardware review web site. According to reports demos of the processor should be released to the general press on September 26th for review. It looks like Tom's Hardware got an early preview of the much anticipated processor. The processor is of course codenamed Kentsfield but industry insiders have been referring to the processor by its consumer name “Intel Core Quadro.”

Most rumors have the processor sitting at 2.65Ghz per a core, 1024 front side bus and 4MB L2 Cache per processor (The Core Quadro has two Core 2 Duo processor stacked on top of each other). This makes the processor hold roughly a 10.6Ghz processor clock speed. Reports have the processor out by November, supposedly AMD is set to rush their version of the quad core out at the same time. The tech community is torn over the new WIPO laws that are being discuessed. The treaty would give broadcasters right over news that would be public domain. Meaning that if something big happened and president bush spoke about it, and for whatver reason a deal was made for it to be exclusive to fox news they would be the only ones with the right to broadcast that information. Intel Core 2 Duo blows AMD off the #1 spot

Intel has released it's Core 2 Duo (Conroe) and it blows away the AMD FX 62 by all of the benchmarks. It has less power output and heat expenditure as well as faster core clock speeds then the FX series from AMD. It also has a smaller price, which is a nice little benefit of the AMD vs Intel processor wars. Hopefully we will be seeing these available for purchase on July 27th as long as they don't try to pull a vista.

Microsoft announced on Wednesday that their office suite will now support the OpenDocument Format (ODF) standard. The move comes in response to government requests for Microsoft products to be compatible with ODF, which include Belgium and Denmark, and the state government of Massachusetts (which happened to get 4 billion dollars in Microsoft software donated to their schools systems after they announced the pledge to only use ODF software in government offices).
